During Your Consultation

During a labiaplasty consultation, Dr. Davis will perform an exam with you to evaluate the excess labial skin and give you the opportunity to discuss your specific concerns and goals. He will review with you the pertinent anatomy, show you what skin will be removed, and describe how the labia will appear after surgery.

Technique

The vast majority of labiaplasties focus on reduction of the labia minor, or inner labia. During surgery, Dr. Davis will remove the excess labial tissue and reshape the labia to achieve a more proportionate and natural aesthetic appearance. The incision is closed with absorbable sutures.

For some patients Dr. Davis will also remove excess skin from the labia majora, or outer labia, or add volume to the outer labia with fat grafting. The surgery takes around 1 hour and is performed under general anesthesia.

Recovery

After surgery you will have some antibiotic ointment placed on the incisions and a pad placed in your underwear. You will come back to the office the day after surgery and we will continue to check on you as you recover and are of course here and available any day if you have any questions or concerns.

You will be sore for a few days and swollen for a week or so. Ice packs can help with swelling and pain during that first week. A spray bottle or shower wand can be helpful to keep the area clean after using the bathroom. You will want to take it easy those first few weeks to allow the incisions to heal, and no tampon use or intercourse for 6 weeks. You can begin unrestricted activity at 6 weeks.
