During Your Consultation

During your face lift consultation, Dr. Davis will assess your concerns and examine your entire face and neck. Depending on your individual goals and starting point, he may also recommend combining your face lift procedure with other facial rejuvenation procedures so your result is balanced and harmonious with your features. Dr. Davis often performs a face lift with brow lifts, eyelid surgery, fat grafting, lip lifts, and laser skin resurfacing.

Technique

During your facelift procedure, Dr. Davis will lift the skin and supportive tissue beneath the skin of the cheeks, jawline, and neck. Scars are hidden around the ear and in the hairline. The bands that commonly develop in the neck are smoothed out and the excess skin of the face and neck is removed. Dr. Davis believes in a natural result without looking overly pulled, so you look like you, only younger. The surgery takes around 3-4 hours and is performed under general anesthesia.

Recovery

After surgery you will be placed in head wrap and have a small suction drain. You will return to the office the next day to have the head wrap removed. We will continue to check on you as you recover and are of course here and available any day if you have any questions or concerns. Sutures and the drain are removed at your one week appointment.

Recovery from a face lift tuck takes about 2 weeks. That first week you’ll be a bit bruised and swollen but will be feeling very good at the end of the week. Many patients like to sleep in a recliner or with their head elevated on extra pillows to help reduce swelling. After the first week, you can gradually increase your activity level and most of the bruising can be covered with makeup at 2 weeks.

You can begin strenuous exercise and rigorous activity at 8 weeks.

Are other procedures frequently combined with facelifts?

Yes! Several other procedures are commonly done with a facelift to enhance the results. Laser resurfacing can be done to help reduce lines and wrinkles, especially around the mouth and eyes, and improve the overall tone and texture of the skin. Fat grafting, where fat is taken from another part of the body and transferred to the face, is also often done with a facelift to help restore volume around the eyes and cheekbones, plump up the lips, and soften the smile lines.

What is the difference between a facelift and a neck lift?

Some people refer to a neck lift for surgery only done on the neck and a face lift for surgery only done on the cheeks and jawline. The way I approach the aging face and neck is very much one of unity and harmony; I think the neck and the face need to blend with one another. When I do a “facelift” or “ neck lift” for a patient, I address both the face and the neck so that your result looks balanced.

What is the average age for facelifts?

The average age is probably around 60, but more and more people are having facelifts in their 50s. I think it’s great when patients opt to have surgery earlier because they can have more time to enjoy the results!

How can I best prepare for my facelift?

A good skin care regimen is the best thing to do to get ready for your facelift. The better your skin, the better the results. Our esthetician is available to help with any of your questions, but in general, a good place to start is a daily cleanser, retinoid, moisturizer, and sunscreen.
