During Your Consultation
During your gynecomastia consultation, Dr. Davis will assess the shape, volume, and symmetry of your chest and areolas as well as if there is excess skin that needs to be treated. He will then describe to you which technique is needed to give you the result that you want. Dr. Davis will want to know if you currently use or have used anything that can cause the growth of male breast tissue such as steroids or marijuana. You can also share and specific concerns and have all of your questions answered.
Technique
Prior to going into surgery, Dr. Davis will measure and mark your chest. These marking serve as a guide in surgery to insure the best possible shape and symmetry. Using incisions that are well hidden along the bottom border of the areola, the excess breast tissue is removed, and the excess fatty tissue is treated with liposuction. If there is excess skin, that will also be excised and enlarged areolas can be made smaller. The surgery takes around 1-2 hours and is performed under general anesthesia.
Recovery
After surgery you will be placed in a compression garment and return to the office the next day for us to check on you. Sometimes drains are needed to remove extra fluid during that first week. We will continue to check on you as you recover and are of course here and available any day if you have any questions or concerns. Recovery from gynecomastia is quite rapid. You’ll feel sore for a few days but will be feel good within a week. Change in nipple sensitivity
after surgery is common and often returns to normal in a few months. Scars are the most noticeable around 6 weeks and then will begin to fade. After the first week, you can gradually increase your activity level, and strenuous exercise can resume at 6-8 weeks. The compression garment should be worn for 6 weeks.
